Curran & Seaton
How media companies are owned and how they are run/structured.
They believe media industries are dominated by a small number of conglomerates(corporation made up of several companies) driven by the logic of profit and power.
They believe concentrated ownership results in a lack of choice and lots of the same product. This results in a lack of diversity and choice for consumers. They think independent ownership results in more choice, creativity and diversity.
Hesmondalgh's cultural industry theory

He believes media industries/companies need to minimise risk and maximise audiences to be successful. To do this he thinks companies should be vertically or horizontaly intergrated, this ensures the company will have power and resources to beat competitors. They should work across a variety of media platforms. For example film companies may also make music.Companies should focus on popular genres/formats/celebrities(recreate popular things to make money e.g fast and furious) They should have a controlled release schedule as more people will rush out to buy the product.Lastly they should have a detailed marketing campaign for example having a website and social media.
